Denebolian republic - National Holidays

Some of the national holidays follow ancient customs and traditions from Earth's religions, preserved and adapted over time by Denebolian culture.

1st January - New Year celebration (International) - since the arrival to the planet

A classic international New Year celebration marked by public events and fireworks. Note: use of fireworks is prohibited in flight corridors and inside national park territory.

17th March - Landing Day / ARC Day (National) - since the arrival to the planet

Commemorates the arrival of the SHIELD expedition on Denebol-IV (Panthalassa) and the founding of the first settlement. Denebolian schools suspend regular curriculum to host science festivals, documentaries, and historical lectures open to the public.

22nd - 25th March - Easter (National) - since 2018

Easter holidays were adopted from Earth's traditions. It is celebrated on the Monday after the first full moon following 21st March. Traditions and customs are similar to the Arnorian ones.

Girls decorate or manufacture Easter eggs to give them to boys on Easter Monday. These eggs are created from various materials and mostly printed via 3D printers. The eggs can have various colors, shapes, and decorations. Boys go caroling on Easter and gently whip girls on their buttocks. An Easter pomace is used for whipping. It is made from willow twigs. Young twigs are thought to bring luck, health, and youth.

1st April - Prank Day (International) - since the arrival to the planet

Although not a formal holiday, Denebolians traditionally play harmless pranks on one another for amusement.

22nd April - Edu Day (National) - since 2022 NT

This holiday celebrates and honors Denebolian core values: curiosity, freedom, and learning. Schools perform public lectures and programs for potential new students. There are several events throughout Denebol – innovation expos, intergenerational storytelling, and more.

This holiday is not mandatory for companies.  

1st May - Love Day (International) - since 2018 NT

The 1st of May is known as a holiday of nature and love in both the Denebolian Republic and the Kingdom of Arnor. Although Denebolians celebrate it differently, it is a day when people visit national parks and local wilderness to find cherry blossoms and kiss under them.

15th May - Green Day (National) - since 2022 NT

This holiday celebrates sustainable agriculture, ecology, and environmental technologies. Citizens participate in tree planting, clean-up campaigns, eco-tech fairs, and Ministry of Culture & Agriculture open days.

This holiday is not mandatory for companies.  

 1st June - D-Day (National) - since 2018 NT

This holiday marks the transition from military-led to civilian democratic government and thus the founding of the Denebolian Republic. More precisely, this day marks the official founding of the Denebolian Republic; the transition occurred several days earlier.

Throughout the entire day, citizens can participate in Open Parliament Day, public debates, and various events. Citizens visit important historical sites such as the Presidential Palace Slavkov, Downstairs Base, Social Arena, etc.

The most important part of the day is the afternoon and evening. People participate in a large parade with banners, flags, and national symbols, starting at the foot of the T255 Tower and continuing through the city to Anterros Square in front of the Presidential Palace. There, the President gives a short speech about the Denebolian past and possible future. The evening ends with a large fireworks display at key locations – the Presidential Palace, Strategic Joint Command HQ, and DUCA University.

15th August - SHIELD Day (National) - since 2018 NT

On this day, citizens of the Denebolian Republic celebrate the Strategic Headquarters for Interstellar Enforcement, Logistics, and Defense. As SHIELD played a crucial role in the formation of today's Denebolian Republic and in many events before, 15th August was chosen to celebrate this organization, its leaders, and agents.

Usually, other military branches join the celebration, as they were separated from the original SHIELD.

Denebolian military branches perform military parades, simulated defense exercises open to the public, and several public concerts to raise funds for veterans and the STARS education fund.

30th October - Peace Day / Day of the dead (National, to become international) - since 2019

On the eve of 30th October, the peace treaty with the Hydra State was signed. On this day, we remember our fallen heroes who gave their lives so we can live freely. During the day, citizens celebrate peace with their families at home. The evening and night belong to the dead. People visit cemeteries and major battlegrounds to commemorate the fallen and leave flowers and a bottle of true Denebolian wine.

16th - 18th November - Accord Days (International) - since 2018

During these days, citizens of all Denebolian Accord member states celebrate the signing of the Accords. One day is dedicated to each member state, and representatives from all member states and GUARD are required to attend. Each day is slightly different according to the nation's customs and celebration plans, but all of them honor this one event.

The Accord Days start in Denebol Prime with speeches from the President, member state representatives, and a GUARD representative. The second day takes place in Arnor and the third in Amaurëa.

During this time, all transportation provided by the Denebolian Republic or its companies shall be free, as a symbol of international cooperation and friendship. Because of that, many citizens travel to other member states to celebrate Accord Days there.

24th December - Christmas remembrance (International) - since the arrival to the planet

This holiday was adopted from Earth's religion Christianity. It has similar traditions, but in Denebolian republic it is mostly about being together with family and exchanging presents.
